Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz grew up traveling between airbases because of her father being in the military.  Since she grew up seeing the world through the lens that was the car window, photography just came naturally to her.  In 1967 she moved to San Francisco to study painting at the art institute.  Soon she discovered her love of photography and went on to become one of the worlds greatest photographers.

In the movie Life through a Lens Annie’s life was unfolded before me.  She was one of the main photographers for the music magazine Rolling Stone when it was first getting started.  When she would photograph people she would immerse herself in their lives and try to become just another piece of the scenery so that she could get the most natural shots possible.  For example, she went on tour with The Rolling Stones and Keith Richards said, “…it seemed like everywhere I turned there was Annie taking a picture.”  Richards went on to say that it became natural having her around and they would all have a good time hanging out with each other.

Annie’s dedication to and love of photography has made her one of the most famous and influential artists in her field.  It has been said that she doesn’t just take pictures of people but while doing so she captures the person’s personality.  She has photographed the worlds most famous musicians, artists, actors and celebrities for magazines such as Rolling Stone and currently for Vanity Fair. She is truly an amazing photographer and a living legend.
